Never sew over pins. Always use good quality thread. When rethreading your serger, to save time, just tie the new threads on and pull them through your loopers. Use the proper bobbin for your machine, one size dosen't fit all. Needles are not all created equal, cheap brands don't have a deep enough scarf.
